What It Means Being an HPH Athlete
Being a Home Plate Hawaii athlete means carrying the pride of the islands wherever the game takes you. Some may stay home, others may leave, but no matter how far they go or how big their name becomes, they'll always know where they came from — because in baseball, you never forget to touch home.
Inspiration
In 2023, it was the end of Coach Matt's baseball career at Austin Peay State University when his coach, Heath Holiday, told him, "you have a passion for the game that you don't see very often." Heath made him realize that he should coach as a way to pass along his knowledge and give back to his community.
The type of coach that Matt wants to be is a coach that kids can trust, relate to, and be themselves. His lessons are about being challenged and improving all while having fun.
